How To Make Chocolate-Dipped Frozen Banana Bites. One last note before we skip the preamble and dive into making these bites. Under no circumstances should you freeze the bites before dipping or leave them at room temperature after being frozen.
To get started with this recipe, we must prepare a few ingredients. You can cook frozen chocolate covered banana bites using 5 ingredients and 11 steps. Here is how you can achieve that.
The ingredients needed to make Frozen Chocolate Covered Banana Bites:
- Make ready 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
- Prepare 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
- Get 3 ripe bananas, room temperature
- Make ready 1 cup crushed Nilla wafer cookies
- Prepare 1 cup crushed honey graham crackers
While the chocolate will set quickly, you want to wait until your bananas freeze as well. Once removed from the freezer, the banana and chocolate will both begin to thaw, so you will want to eat them right away or keep them. Store any leftovers in a covered container in the freezer. Dip each in melted chocolate; return to paper-lined cookie sheet.
Steps to make Frozen Chocolate Covered Banana Bites:
- Gather your supplies first: 2 cookie sheets, parchment paper, 2 dinner forks, 1 knife, 1 tablespoon, measuring cup, 3 bowls (1 for melting chocolate, 2 for the separate crushed toppings), 1 or 2 plastic sandwich bags, and a cutting board. It's easiest to place the items in a left to right order on your counters, with the bowl of melted chocolate on the left, cutting board with bananas next, bowls of crushed toppings, then finally the cookie sheets with parchment paper on the right.
- Side note: Make sure you have space in the freezer for two cookie sheets to lay flat and even. If you only have room for one, use a small pan instead, and line with parchment paper.
- Lay the parchment paper over each cookie sheet. You will transfer the chocolate dipped bananas onto these.
- Put a handful of Nilla wafer cookies into one of the plastic sandwich bags and close. Use a hard object to crush the cookies in the bag (I used the back of a heavy ice cream scoop). When finished, pour crushed cookies into one of the bowls. Do the same with either the same sandwich bag or a second one, crushing one package of graham crackers (not the entire box). Pour into the second bowl. Set these to the left of your cookie sheets.
- Although it asks for 2 cups chocolate chips, I found it easier to divide the ingredients in half when melting it. Heat only 1 cup chocolate chips in a bowl for 20 seconds at a time, using one of the forks to stir it in between. Continue doing this until the chips are almost melted, then add 1 Tbsp of vegetable oil to the bowl and mix with chips until combined. Repeat this step when you run out of melted chocolate.
- Because the melted chocolate chips will harden somewhat quickly, you may want to cut your bananas into 1/2 inch slices on the cutting board while doing step 5. (The website gave an alternative way to heat the chocolate chips on stovetop, if preferred).
- Drop a banana slice into the melted chocolate and use the same fork to cover the banana with chocolate. Lift it out of the chocolate, careful not to drip it outside of the bowl, and use the bottom of the fork to scrape off excess chocolate onto the bowl. Carry the chocolate dipped banana slice to the cookie sheet and place in corner of sheet. Space them evenly apart so they do not freeze together.
- If using toppings, take a chocolate dipped banana slice on the fork (remember to scrape off excess chocolate on side of bowl) and drop it into one of the bowls of toppings. Put the fork back in the chocolate bowl and use the clean fork to cover the banana slice with crushed toppings. When completely covered, remove banana slice with clean fork and place onto cookie sheet, evenly spaced apart.
- After all banana slices have been dipped and placed onto the cookie sheets, place the cookie sheets into the freezer, making sure they are on an even surface, as to not let them fall or slide off. Allow them to freeze for 6 hours or overnight.
- After freezing the slices, put them into a container with a lid and store them in the freezer. Enjoy!!
- Side note: Marshmallows are seen in the ingredients picture because I tried dipping a few in chocolate, then in the crushed toppings, but I did not freeze them. They were ready within minutes (and they were delicious!).
